Auctioneera Creates Ongoing Charity Partnership with Dogs for the Disabled
We are delighted to announce the development of an ongoing charity partnership with “Dogs for the Disabled”. Founded in 2007 by Jennifer Dowler CEO, Dogs for the Disabled is a charity that was set up to improve the lives of children and adults all over Ireland living with physical disabilities; the charity sets up unique dog “partnerships” whereby a dog is fully trained to assist specially chosen individuals living with disabilities in various tasks. The charity works tirelessly to deliver approximately 25 fully trained assistance dogs each year to people living with disabilities around Ireland. The team at Dogs for the Disabled is made up of six full-time dedicated staff and they are backed by a large team of enthusiastic volunteers.
The Dogs for the Disabled HQ is situated in the Togher area of Cork city and so it was via its Cork office that our team here at Auctioneera made initial contact with the Accounts & Office Manager at the charity, Margaret Guckian. Margaret kindly gave a detailed background of the work that is required to keep a charity like this running over the last 14 years and expressed great enthusiasm for the donation project.
As part of our donation scheme at Auctioneera, we have provided vendors with the option of donating a portion of their estate agency fee to a charity of their choice; Dogs for the Disabled is now a curated option as part of this drive and the response has been hugely positive.
Director of Auctioneera, Eddie O’Driscoll explains some further background. “Charities like Dogs for the Disabled sometimes don’t get the exposure that they deserve and having heard the background of the work involved in keeping this particular charity going since 2007, it was an easy decision to choose Dogs for the Disabled for our curated donation list. The work that Jennifer Dowler, Margaret Guckian and the whole team do every single day of the year is truly inspiring; they work with dedication from selecting the right dog and person partnership, to the breeding side of things right through to the delivery and ongoing support to the dogs and partners. They are delivering a new aspect of life to so many adults and children living with disabilities.”
Helen O’Keeffe of Auctioneera visited the Dogs for the Disabled headquarters in Togher, Cork recently and met Margaret and Jennifer. Helen saw first-hand how the charity train their puppies, support them and nurture them until they’re ready to be partnered up. Support is also needed to encourage a connection between the dog and the partner and of course Dogs for the Disabled is on hand to expertly provide this.
Margaret Guckian, Accounts & Office Manager for the charity: “Dogs for the Disabled cannot thank you all enough for getting in contact with us and offering us this opportunity. We are delighted to be chosen to be partnered up with Auctioneera. It was so lovely to meet Helen and explain exactly the service we provide free of charge to all our partnerships. We could not provide this service free without the generosity of the public and business like Auctioneera.”
